Material & Care

Atelier Rosey is using 925 Sterling Silver and 18 Karat gold plating for all products.

Sterling silver

Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92,5% by weight of silver and 7,5% by weight of other metals, usually copper.

Silver does not react with oxygen or water, so does not easily form a silver oxide.

However, it is attacked by common components at atmospheric pollution: silver sulfide slowly appears as a black tarnish during exposure to airborne compounds of sulfur, and low level ozone react to form silver oxide. As the purity of the silver decreases, the problem of tarnishing increased because other metals in the alloy, copper, may react with oxygen in the air.

We recommend using a polishing silver cloth that serve to remove sulfur from the metal without damaging the Jewels.

Please note that Harsh polishing can permanently damage a piece of silver, always hand-polish to preserve the unique pieces.

Gold plating

Gold plating is a method of depositing a thin layer of gold onto the surface of another metal, in our case Sterling silver.

The thickness of gold plating is noted in Microns. The microns of thickness determines how long the gold plating lasts with usage.

Gold plated silver jewelry can still tarnish as the silver atoms diffuse into the gold layer, causing slow gradual fading of its color and eventually causing tarnishing of the surface. This process may take months and even years.

Carefully polish the tarnished parts of the Jewels, prevent scratches and use and a soft silver polishing cloth.

Atelier Rosey is using the following qualities of Gold plating
1 Micron Gold Plated: Earrings, Charms, Pendants & Necklaces
3 Micron Heavy Gold Plated: Ring
Store your Jewelry after wearing in Atelier Rosey's jewelry box, this is a dry and dark space with limit exposure to air to prevent  from silver oxide.
